Passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 69.
Eric Alfred Hovland was the beloved father of Jessie, Matthew and Rachel, and the cherished partner of Laurie. He
was loved by so many and leaves behind emptiness in the lives of all who knew him.
Eric was a kind, understanding, compassionate, and deeply spiritual man, with a wonderful sense of
humour. He was committed to the people and principles he loved and believed strongly in treating
everyone with dignity and respect.
He had many passions in life, including Bible study, reading, photography, martial arts, golf and the
outdoors. Photography was more than a hobby to Eric – he was determined to capture the perfect
image and would crawl through mud, ditches, snow, or whatever obstacle stood in his way to get the
right shot.
Through his work training security professionals, Eric tried to pass on something that was especially
important to him: the ethical and respectful treatment of every person. Eric had only recently begun
talking about retirement and the possibility of starting a new chapter in his life.
This chapter was not to unfold as any of us expected, those who loved him will carry forward the
lessons, laughter, kindness, and love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who were
fortunate enough to know him.
