ym chin burnaby bc obituary

Surrounded by his loving family, YM Chin passed away peacefully. Born on April 2, 1939, YM shared 49 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patti Kwan. He is survived by his wife, Patti, and his two sons, Andrew and John.

YM was someone who walked many paths in life and always found the resilience to make his own way. In his youth, he attended medical school in Hunan, China. Due to political changes at the time, he was unable to complete his degree and returned to Hong Kong. He then worked as a firefighter while continuing his studies at Hong Kong Baptist University. He later moved to the United States to further his education, earning a master’s degree in microbiology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

After returning to Hong Kong, YM joined his family’s car dealership, where he ultimately met the love of his life, Patti. Together, they began a new chapter. YM became an entrepreneur, starting a watch business from scratch with his wife. Through their hard work and determination, they built a successful company that eventually allowed them to buy a home and move their family to Vancouver.

Throughout his life, YM worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Even after immigrating to Canada and reaching retirement, he continued to work to provide extra income for his family, taking jobs at a supermarket and even as a barista at a bubble tea shop. His willingness to work hard, no matter the job, reflected the way he lived his life: determined, hardworking, and forever selfless in caring for his family.

One of YM’s happiest recent memories was his final family trip to Victoria this past May. Together, the family enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the ferry and shared delicious seafood by the water while watching the sunset. It is a memory his family will always treasure.

His family will forever miss his wit, his banter, his laughter, and the joy he brought into their lives. Above all, they will remember a man who persevered through every turn in life, worked tirelessly, and devoted himself to the family he loved.
