CHUI, Yat Fan (Xu Xing)

Yat Fan Chui, also known as Xu Xing

Yat Fan Chui, also known by his pen name Xu Xing, passed away peacefully at Burnaby Hospital in British Columbia on September 1, 2026, at the age of 100.

Born on November 30, 1925, in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China, Mr. Chui left home at 16 and built a life shaped by determination, learning, culture, and service to others.

He moved to Hong Kong in 1950, where he founded a tutorial centre and later established a trading company. He also founded three cultural magazines and contributed to Hong Kong’s literary and publishing community under the name Xu Xing.

After discovering a passion for visual art during a trip to Europe, he studied through the Chinese University of Hong Kong and worked in drawing, printmaking, oil painting, sculpture, screen printing, ceramics, calligraphy, seal carving, and papier-mâché.

Mr. Chui retired and immigrated to Vancouver in 1988. He and his wife, Mo Lan Chui, travelled throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. His home reflected his lifelong love of art and learning through his many creations and extensive private library.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mo Lan Chui, his family, and friends around the world.

Funeral Service

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, British Columbia.
