Marilyn “Marny” Theresa Lyons
February 1, 1937 – March 3, 2025
At the age of 88, Marilyn (Marny) Theresa Lyons (née Railey) passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 3, 2025, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry after her courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Don and son David, Marny leaves behind her loving son Mark. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Eileen and a cherished sister to Marie, Bill, Joan (Mike), Jim (Pam), Cathy, and the late Bob and John. Marny was a devoted grandmother to Shauna, Alexander, Nicholas, Gregory, and Robert, and a proud great-grandmother to Jayden and Matteo. She will also be missed by her daughters-in-law, Rhea and Dianne, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Her lifelong best friend, Bev, fondly recalls their 70+ years of friendship without ever exchanging a harsh word. Sharon, who shared countless Sunday afternoons over coffee and double chocolate muffins, will deeply miss their time together. Special thanks go out to Dianne and Sharon for their unwavering support of Mark, Joan, and the rest of the family during this difficult time.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and healthcare team, as well as the compassionate nurses and volunteers at Oak Ridges Hospice, for their kindness and care toward Marilyn and her loved ones.
Visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home (847 King Street West, Oshawa) on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary of the People Catholic Church (570 Marion Ave, Oshawa) on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice or the Oshawa Humane Society.
