Our family is heartbroken to announce that our beloved Mom, Shirley Collins passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026 surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Shirley was the heart and soul of our family. She was a loving and nurturing Mom to her daughters and their husbands, Deb (Bill Sikora), Bren (Steve Jones) and Shell (Dan Hayhurst). As Nana/Nan’s, she was absolutely devoted to her Grandchildren and their families. Her Grandchildren Adam (Vanessa), Steph (Paul), Sam (Kayla), Dave (Ireland), Tom (Taylor), Reilly (Larri), Emily (Nic), Nicky and Abby were the pride and sunshine in her life and they cherished many precious moments with her. Her great grandchildren Julianne, Olivia, Isabelle, Emilia, Harrison and Elye continued to fill her world with joy and laughter. Shirley is also survived by her loving brother Don (Heather), brothers and sisters-in-law Jim, Jerry, Charlotte and Catherine and many nieces, nephews and their families. She is pre-deceased by her devoted husband Bill and her 3 sisters Sandra, Sharon and Sheila.
Born in Halifax in 1933 to Don and Mary Snow, Shirley moved to Ontario and married Bill in 1956. They raised their 3 daughters in their family home in Scarborough. She lived her life spreading warmth, joy and laughter wherever she went. She loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures with her friends and family, and when she turned 80, she and her daughters took to the roads annually for precious and memorable trips to Savannah Georgia.
Shirley was the source of endless strength and inspiration for all her family and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with the people she loved. Her home was always an open door, the gathering place where she brought together her loved ones to enjoy a quiet cup of tea and goodies from her pantry to catch up on the lives of everyone she touched. We will remember her for her grace, her endless style and her quiet resilience. While Mom is no longer in our sights, her deep values, everlasting love and commitment to family will remain in our hearts forever.
We will celebrate Mom’s beautiful life on Friday September 11, 2026 at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home in Bowmanville Ontario. The family will welcome visitors beginning at 10:00 am followed by a service at noon. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Community Care Support Services for their tender care over the years. Nancy, you are a treasure. In lieu of flowers the family would welcome donations to Marigold Hospice Care in Newcastle Ontario.
