Michael “Terry” Terrence Ashcroft passed away at Toronto General Hospital on September 12, 2026, in his 78th year.

Terry was the beloved husband and lifelong partner of Gloria Ashcroft (née Stonard). He was a cherished father to Tyrrell Ashcroft and an adored grandfather to Thien, Chase and Marlowe. He is remembered by his brother David Ashcroft and David’s partner, Norm; his late brother Robert Ashcroft and Robert’s wife, Jacquie; and his brother Mark Ashcroft and Mark’s wife, Maxine. Terry’s extended family and lifelong friends will also miss him dearly.

Known for quiet integrity, generosity and deep loyalty, Terry gave others his full attention and approached people with thoughtfulness and an open mind. During his career as a teacher, he made a lasting difference in the lives of his students, many of whom continued to thank him years after leaving his classroom.

Terry was remarkably capable and met difficult problems with patience and ingenuity. He enjoyed intricate building projects, particularly those involving model trains, and found peace in nature and among animals. His family will remember the steady, selfless devotion he gave without expecting anything in return.

Cremation has taken place in accordance with Terry’s wishes. His Celebration of Life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East in Cobourg, on September 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Words of remembrance will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Those wishing to honour Terry may make a memorial donation to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.
