Mary Evelyn Greengrass

March 12, 1939 – September 16, 2026

Memorial candle

Evelyn was the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth Brown, and is predeceased by her sister Marnie Brown. She will be deeply missed by her husband Raymond Greengrass, son Steven Greengrass (Lisa Kemp), and daughter Sherry Greengrass (Robert Brown). Ev, as she liked to be called, was especially fond of her grandchildren Dan Kemp (Kaylee Barnes), Halle Kemp (Kyle Kelly), Zoe Brown, Alex Brown (Jennifer), her great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Don Brown and Murray Brown, and by her sisters-in-law Betty, Rita and Jackie.

A lifelong resident of Bowmanville, Ev was well-known and loved by many in the community, including students, parents and staff of Central Public School and Bowmanville Senior Public School. She worked as a school secretary for over 40 years, and was known for her friendliness and compassion. An avid photographer, she documented every stage of family life, and every celebration. She also loved gardening, and she and Ray planted beautiful gardens at their home. And, of course, she loved her dogs.

To her family and friends Ev meant everything, and was loved for her wit, humour and, above all, kindness.

A private family service will be held to honour Evelyn’s life and legacy, with a Celebration Of Life to follow at a future date.
