Ian Robert Menzies

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart we announce the death of Ian at the age of 84. Ian was born in Toronto and passed away peacefully at the Bloomington Cove Long Term Community.

Ian Robert Menzies was predeceased by his parents Martha (Dewar) and Ian Menzies. He is survived by his loving wife Janet of 61 years; his children Doug and Debbie (who unexpectedly passed away on December 21, 2020 and is so dearly missed) whom he deeply loved; and was an extremely proud Grandpa to his grandchildren Ryan, Chloe and Tessa. Ian is also survived by his sister Sandra, her late husband Jim and his niece and nephews.

Ian graduated from Ryerson with a Degree of Electronic Technology in May 1964. He initially worked for the Bell in Ottawa for a short time, but, managed to get his next job at Canada Wire and Cable in Leaside just before he got married on July 10, 1965 to Barbara “Janet” Wright. He worked there for about 5 years. During this time, Ian worked on getting his professional Engineers Degree which he accomplished in October 1972. He was then employed at Hydro One where he remained until he retired in 1993.

His love was our cottage. His enjoyment was doing work there and at home. He was very ‘hands on’ and did most of any work himself.

Ian was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be treasured for many wonderful memories.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905-852-3073) on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 11a.m. with visitation beginning at 10a.m. A reception will immediately follow the service. A Private Burial will take place on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Uxbridge Cemetery.
