Victor Stanley Garchinski

The third child of Joseph and Elsie Garchinski, Victor was born on July 28th, 1938, on the family farm where he was raised.

Victor Stanley Garchinski started his education in a two-room school in Belgrave, continued school in Maryville and graduated high school in Fairy Glen. Victor enjoyed music his entire life. He was a self-taught fiddle player who, although he couldn’t read a music note, loved to jam with other musicians including playing at social events and weddings in the area.

In 1957, Victor moved to Saskatoon to seek employment. He had several different careers, starting with the Hudson Bay Company as a drapery installer. His longest employer was Eaton’s, where he worked as department head and then warehouse manager. For the last 10 years of his 27-year career with the company, Victor worked as the market administration manager. Following his retirement from Eaton’s, he worked part-time at Braid Flooring. Victor took great pride in his efforts throughout his many years in the workforce.

Victor met Molly in 1958 at a weekly dance held at the Manhattan. Two years of courting was followed by a two-day marriage celebration in 1960. The marriage was held at St. Helen’s church near Brooksby on August 13th followed by a second day celebration in Nipawin on August 14th.

Victor was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Saskatoon and had a deep faith. He was an active member of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of Grand Knight. He was also involved in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal where he acted as chairperson.

One of his favourite pastimes was attending his grandchildren’s activities, with a perfect attendance record at music recitals, soccer games, curling matches and orchestra performances. Victor enjoyed camping, many fishing trips to Jan Lake and the occasional hunting trip with his brothers and nephews.

Victor is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Molly, his daughter, Leslie (Jeff) Stroeder, his grandchildren, Joel and Caitlin, and siblings, Frank, Walter (Jean), Annette (Eugene), and Adolf (Darlene) and sister-in-law Sonja. Victor was predeceased by his son, Larry, his parents, Joseph and Elsie Garchinski, his brothers, Peter and Adam, sisters-in-law, Stella and Darlene, and great-nephew, Chase.

The family extends their appreciation to Porteous Lodge for the care they provided to Victor over the last several months.

Victor will be lovingly remembered for the love he gave, the memories he created, and the special place he held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 211 Avenue O South, on Thursday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m.
