
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Roy Augustas Samuel, affectionately known as “Sumber,” on September 26, 2026, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, following a brief battle with cancer.
Roy was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on September 19, 1966, to his loving mother, Doreen Samuel, and his late father, Leon Samuel. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his fiancée, Vinta Bute, his beloved children, Marlene Patterson, Abigail Patterson, Gaston Patterson, Otega Edwards, Notlee Jackson, Alsnue Patterson, Ashana Patterson, and his adopted daughter, Kaylisa Porter. He was a proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren: Shazel Patterson, Asbert Fisher, David Kambi, Crystal Fisher, Jucilla Fisher, Dave Patterson, Cynthia Patterson, Elijah Patterson, Amayah Patterson, Kaveah Patterson, Daph Happi-Patterson, Lily Patterson, Olaina Edwards, Jaydon Jackson, Shalom Johnson, Adannaya Ndi, and Roy Gbedze. Roy is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Hillary Edwards, Jerome Young, Bibby Samuel, and Franklin Samuel, and his sisters, June Samuel Henry, Reena Samuel, and Doris Walker. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family, including his sons-in-law, Kezal Johnson, Ikegod Ndi, and Edem Gbedze; daughters-in-law, Kamica Patterson and Sara Patterson; brothers-in-law, Denzil Henry and Bancroft Walker; and sisters-in-law, Violet Young, Sandra Samuel, and Sinita Samuel. Roy also leaves behind many beloved nieces, including Merei Dixon, nephews, extended family members, relatives, and friends in Canada and St. Vincent.
Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his special girl, Munga, and his grandson Jaydon Jackson, affectionately known as “Skillibeng,” who held a very special place in his heart.
Though he is no longer with us, Roy’s memory will live on through the family and friends who loved him and the many lives he touched. Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.
Funeral Service Please join the family at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, for visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 4:00 p.m.
