Domenico Fasan passed away at home on October 2, 2026, at the age of 95. Born May 15, 1931, Domenico was the son of Luigi and Giovanna Fasan, in Meduna, Di Livenza, Treviso, Italy. In time, he made his home in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew him.
A hard-working man who built his life with steady hands and steadfast purpose, Domenico learned his trade as a carpenter and travelled to Switzerland to secure work making furniture and caskets—always striving for a better life. In 1957, following the advice of his older sister who had already settled in Canada, he came to this country and began a new chapter in Toronto. In 1958, he was joined by his sweetheart, Teresa, and they married shortly thereafter, beginning a devoted partnership that would span 67 years. Together they raised two sons, Maurizio (born 1961) and Frank (born 1966). After making their home in North York for a time, they moved in 1978 to Oak Ridges, where their family life continued to grow and flourish.
Domenico leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Teresa. He will be dearly missed by his sons, Maurizio (Maria) and Frank (Lucy). A cherished Nonno, Domenico will be lovingly remembered by Maurizio’s children Daniel (Shantie) and Gabriel (Carly), and by his great grandchildren Dante, Darrien, Zoe, and Addison; and by Frank’s children Olivia, Julia, Emily, and Domenic. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Fernanda (d. Giobatta Valvasori). Remembered by his nephews and nieces both here and in Italy and Shantie’s children Malaya and Amira.
Though Domenico did not take to organized sports, he enjoyed a good game of Bocce. He also carried a deep love of music throughout his life—playing it often, singing along, and ensuring it always had a place in his home. As a child, he had wanted to play the accordion but could not afford one; in later years, that early longing became a quiet gift to his family, as he insisted his sons learn to play instruments, keeping music present and alive in the household.
Domenico and Teresa also found joy in the simple, faithful work of tending their ever-expanding garden. Over the years, their yard became not only a place of growth and care, but also home to chickens, rabbits, and goats—an extension of the life they built together with patience and devotion.
In his later years, Domenico’s health declined, and with the love and care of his family he was able to remain at home. Surrounded by those who were devoted to him, he lived with Alzheimer’s for 23 years, sustained by steady presence, tenderness, and faith.
He is definitely singing with the choirs in Heaven.
