It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Collins, on October 3, 2026, at the age of 71.
Susan Marie Collins was born in Peterborough, Ontario, on September 18, 1955, to James Irwin Matthew Sexsmith and June Dorothy Johns. She graduated from Durham College with a diploma in Accounting and went on to build a long and dedicated career in the grocery industry, working for over 45 years as a floral designer with Miracle Food Mart, A&P and Metro. Susan took great pride in her work, her creativity and the many people she met throughout her career.
In 1980, Susan married the love of her life, James (Jim) Collins and together they built a life filled with family, laughter and many cherished memories. Susan was a loving and devoted mother to Melissa and Jeffrey Collins. Her family was always at the heart of her life.
Susan was an avid gardener and knitter who loved spending time outdoors, fishing, enjoying cottage life and being surrounded by the animals she adored. Her pets were an important part of her family, including her beloved dog Wynnie. Susan had a special way of caring for those around her and the people she loved.
Susan will be deeply missed by her husband Jim, her children Melissa and Jeffrey, her dog Wynnie and her siblings Robert (Dorothy), James, Diana (Larry) and Sharon (Raymond), along with extended family, friends and all those whose lives she touched throughout the years.
She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by her family and friends. Her love of family, nature, gardening, animals and the outdoors will remain a lasting part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, Ontario, L1E 2R7, on October 9, 2026, from 11:31 am to 1:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, Ontario, L1E 2R7, on October 9, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Durham Region in Susan’s memory.
She will be forever loved, forever missed and never forgotten.
