He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shannon, and his children Jacob (Lauren), Cameron, and Jenna, his sisters Kelly (Doug), Julie (the late Chuck), along with his cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and so many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dianne and Bruce.
Gary grew up in Whitby with a heartfelt passion for sports, devoting his time to both lacrosse and hockey. As a player for the Whitby Warriors, Gary and his team won the Minto Cup in 1985. He also made a major impact on the Whitby Lacrosse scene by coaching for over two decades from Paperweight to Junior C,
achieving two Ontario Provincial Championships along the way. Gary also had a huge love of football. Every Sunday he would watch multiple football games while simultaneously monitoring his football pools.
Gary also had an immense love for music, whether it was playing a vinyl record, blasting music in the car, or getting up on stage for his band, Five Wheel Drive.
With Gary’s passions for sports and music, he was always able to run into friends and acquaintances and strike up a conversation.
Gary was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, always finding ways to bring people together.
A celebration of life for Gary will be held in 2027. Details will be released by his family in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the WMLA
