Passed away peacefully on October 6th 2026 at 97 years.
He was born on January 8th 1929 on the tiny Isle of Mort, Newfoundland. He grew up on the island of Ramea, Newfoundland. He is pre-deceased by his wife Glenys (nee Thomas), his son Tom and all six of his siblings. He is survived by Janice, David (Sonia) and Gwen (Gary), two grandsons Chris and Kyle, and two great grandchildren, Landon and Claire.
Ivan Cutler immigrated to Canada when he was 16 and landed in Toronto. It was here that his new life began. At a church dance he met a northern gal named Glenys Thomas. When she graduated from nursing college they moved to her home-town of Sudbury. They were married on February 27th 1953. During their 69 year marriage they had four children – Gwen, Tom, David and Janice. It was here he learned his trade as a welder and he worked at Falconbridge for 28 years.
Ivan was the best Dad. He was loving, supportive, patient, kind and always generous with his time. He told a good story and his laugh was infectious. He played crib every chance he had. He walked miles every day, it didn’t matter what the weather was.
Ivan was very proud of his beloved Newfoundland. He loved every type of seafood. He became the chief cook and baker of the family and was well known for his fish cakes, meat pies and date squares.
He had a strong Anglican faith and going to church every Sunday was always expected.
Ivan treasured his family and we loved him deeply. He was a good man who lived a good life. He is dearly missed and will be lovingly remembered.
