1936 – 12 October 2026
John Erik Moller passed away peacefully at the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 12th, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in Denmark in 1936, John emigrated to Canada in 1952 with his mother, Erna Reiher. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine, with whom he shared 61 happy years of marriage before her passing in 2020.
A proud new Canadian, John served for 32 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as an aircraft electrician with the Air Force, working on the Argus, Voodoo, and Hercules. His postings took the family to Chatham, New Brunswick; Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Comox, British Columbia; back to Chatham; and finally, to Trenton, Ontario. When his boys were young, he served as a Cub and Scout leader with Scouts Canada in both Comox and Chatham.
John loved to travel. He was stationed in Europe early in his career where took advantage of the opportunity and visited many countries, and his work later took him to Hawaii and across Canada, culminating in a trip around the world in 1985. As a family, they crossed Canada several times on postings and enjoyed many camping trips, introducing his children to the outdoors. As empty nesters, John and Lorraine continued their travels together, visiting Europe, the Caribbean, Florida, Louisiana, and Hawaii.
In 1985, John and Lorraine made their home in Trenton. There, John pursued his love of music, playing guitar and keyboard and singing in a glee club entertaining seniors in hospital or retirement homes. An avid videographer since the early 1980s, he also joined a local video club and recorded countless family occasions. His family is deeply grateful for the memories he preserved, allowing those moments to be revisited and shared for years to come.
John remained in Trenton until 2021, when, following Lorraine's passing, he moved to Halifax to live with his son Tom. He lived his later years with a smile and a deep sense of gratitude — for the life he had lived and the life he was still living. He was never shy about expressing his love and gratitude, a quality his family will always remember
John is survived by his children Doug (Sandra) and Tom (Michelle); his daughter-in-law Carol; his grandchildren James, Frank(Erika), Chris, Olivia, Sarah, Amy, Spencer, and Justin; and his great-grandchildren Kayla and Hunter. He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, his son Kevin, and his mother Erna.
