It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Roden James Rutledge, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at age 85. His unexpected loss has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Above all else, Roden was an amazing husband and devoted family man. His love for his family was at the centre of his life, and the memories he created with those closest to him will forever be treasured. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy will live on through the many generations who were blessed to call him family. Roden was the beloved husband of Carol Rutledge (nee Ivany), sharing a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories. He was a proud father to Steve Rutledge and his wife Tracey, and Mike Rutledge and his wife, Deanna. His family continued to grow through the love of his grandchildren: Olivia Weatherall and her husband Cameron; Bradley Rutledge and his wife Grace; Ryan Rutledge and his wife Sarah; Max Rutledge; and Luke Rutledge. Roden was also a cherished great-grandfather to Elaina, Everett, Addison, and Avery, who brought another special dimension of love and joy to his life. Dear brother-in-law of Murray Ivany. Roden was predeceased by his brother Don Rutledge and Steve’s wife Ann (nee Hopkins). Though his passing was sudden and heartbreaking, the love Roden gave so generously will remain with his family always. The lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the moments spent together will be held close to their hearts for years to come. A man who loved his family deeply, Roden leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured in years alone, but in the lives he touched and the love he leaves behind. He was deeply loved, he will be forever missed, and he will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully, Roden. Your family will carry your love with them always.
A celebration of his life will be at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at www.thornefuneralhome.ca
