It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Evelyn Jean Severn on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital, at the age of 89. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with Denis our father, on the eve what would have been their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Shirley was born April 26, 1937 on her grandparents farm on Thertell Road, Kendal, Ontario.
She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Leona (née Thertell), her husband Denis Severn, brother Alan Farrow, sister in law Carroll Farrow, sister Gwen Glass-Bate and sister Joyce.
A devoted sister, mother and grandmother, Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her sister Brenda Goode, sons Doug (Cathy), Keith (Sandra), and Dana (Nancy) and by her much loved grandchildren, Dan (Jenna), Dylan (Kaylie) and Sarah. Also a great grandmother to Anna, whom our mother adored. Also many nieces, nephews and friends whom she kept regular contact with daily.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Northcutt Elliott, followed by a service Thursday, October 22nd, 2026 at 11am at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville, Ontario. Followed by an interment at Orono Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow at Oddfellows and Rebekah Centre located at 124 Church Street North, Orono, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to Ronald McDonald House, Covenant House, or St. Paul’s Church Bowmanville.
