Kathleen Mae McConnell (née Hart), affectionately known as Kay, was born on January 25, 1930, in Cobourg, Ontario, to John Wesley Hart and Marion (Minnie) Stuart Boyd. She was one of eight children and grew up in Maynooth, Ontario.
In her twenties, Kay moved to Toronto to attend Bible College. She later pursued nursing studies, where she met her future sister-in-law, the late Mabel McConnell. It was Mabel who introduced Kay to her future husband and the love of her life, Melville McConnell. Kay and Mel were married on June 1, 1963, at Calvary Church. They then settled in Scarborough, Ontario, where they began their life together.
Kay lived a life devoted to service, fellowship, and her Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was at the heart of everything she did, and she found great joy in serving others and being part of her church and community.
She worked for many years as a practical nurse and had a love for music, cooking, entertaining, gardening, and staying active. Kay especially enjoyed opening her home to family and friends, sharing meals, and creating opportunities for fellowship. Her generous spirit and willingness to help others were evident throughout her life. She also volunteered at Fair Havens Bible Conference and Mission Thrift Store in Florida, continuing her commitment to serving others.
Kay will be lovingly remembered by her sons, John (Maria) and Gordon; her granddaughter, Juliet (Brent); her sister, Grace; and her nieces and nephews, Jerry, Shirley (Richard), Janet, and Trace.
