Phitsbert "Bertie" George Emmanuel Dawes
April 23, 1952 - October 24, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phitsbert George Emmanuel Dawes, lovingly known as “Bertie,” on October 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Bertie passed away peacefully at his home in Ajax, Ontario, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Oracabessa, St. Mary, Jamaica, Bertie is survived by his devoted wife, Marcia, and his sons Adrian and Brian. He was a cherished grandfather to Eva, Aidan, Addison, Lauren, and Meghan. Bertie will also be fondly remembered by his brothers Carlton Walker and Jeffery Roberts, their families, and many extended family members and friends. Known for his “gift of the gab,” Bertie delighted in sharing stories and connecting with those around him.
After immigrating to Canada in 1970, Bert enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Federal Government, including 23 years with the Canada Revenue Agency and 12 years with Health Canada, retiring as a Labour Relations Advisor. A dedicated sportsman, he was active in the Commonwealth Sports Club, a talented cricketer, and a golf enthusiast in retirement. Bertie’s greatest joy, however, was playing dominoes with friends and family.
Bertie’s wit, humor, and big heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In his memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
