JONES, Jean Muriel (Conner)   -  Passed away after a valiant struggle with a short illness on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Douglas Crossing Retirement Home in Uxbridge, in her 91st year.

Jean (nee Conner), was the dearly loved wife of the late Melville Jones of Leaskdale.

Loving mother of Barry (Janice), Karen (Ron Parish, Gord (Pauline), Lori Benson, and Brian.

Proud Grandmother of Stephen (Erin), Renee, Lea Anne, Shawn (Elizabeth), Jennifer (Kyle), Brent (Janelle), Jeremy (Monica), Denika (Derrick), Dennis (Andrea), Glen White, Krista (Andrew), Darren and Samantha.

Loving GG to 15 great-grandchildren.

She was considered a big sister to niece and nephew Bernie McGriskin, Frances Found and 2nd Mom to nephew Paul McGriskin.

Predeceased by sister Mildred McGriskin and brother “Bud” Conner.  Survived by sister-in-law Evelyn Gormley (Arthur).  Jean was the daughter of the late Russell and Myrtle Conner.

Jean was born in Brougham and the family later moved to Dunbarton where she lived until her marriage to Melville Jones in 1951.  They moved to Uxbridge in 1960 and lived in the Leaskdale area until Mel’s death in 2008.  Jean moved into Uxbridge in 2009.

Jean started her working career in Simpsons, downtown Toronto at the age of 16.  She worked there until her marriage.

After raising 5 children she went back to work delivering mail in 1969 and 1971 she took a position as a clerk in the Uxbridge Post Office until she retired in 1986.

At that point she started helping in the Hospital Auxiliary and continued to do so until 2018.  Jean also canvassed for the Cancer Society for 40 years.

She was a devout member of St. Paul’s Leaskdale. Jean moved to Douglas Crossing in January 2019 and remained there until her passing.

She enjoyed being there and considered the PSW’s and Nurses her family.

Every time the family visited Jean she never failed to comment “they treat me so well”.  Which was never more evident than in her final days.  They were with her constantly.  She loved when some of the PSW’s referred to her as “Miss Jean”.  They teased her for shaking her finger at them and the family can appreciate that as we knew what that finger shake meant.  Our family cannot thank them enough.  They are a very special group.

Jena’s family would also like to thank the Uxbridge Hospital to all the nurses, doctors and physio staff for their wonderful care during her stays there over the last three years.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Uxbridge Hospital, St. Paul’s Leaskdale or a  CHARITY of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
