Edna Gaudreault

1940 – 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edna Gaudreault in Sudbury on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the age of 84 years. Daughter of the late René Dionne and Leda (born Gervais), and beloved wife of the late René Gaudreault.

Edna was a loving mother to Marc Gaudreault (Joanne Gervais) and Lynn Gaudreault (Gaylord Read), and cherished grandmother to Mélissa, Émilie (Vincent Peltier), and Renée, and great-grandmother to Kieran. She will also be missed by her brother Richard Dionne (Lucienne) and was predeceased by her siblings Lucille Legault (late Gaëtan), Donald Dionne (Pauline), and Julien Dionne (Suzanne).

Edna was a dedicated teacher for 36 years, touching the lives of countless students with her warmth and sense of humor. Known for her famous "sucre à la crème," she loved sharing laughter and sweets with friends and family. Traveling the world with her late husband, Edna lived life to the fullest until her illness limited her mobility.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: A Chapel service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cooperative Funeral Home.

Bella Prévost

2024

Peacefully passed away with her family by her side on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the age of 93 years. Daughter of the late Gaspard Lafrenière and late Albina (née Gagnon) Lafrenière. Beloved wife of 75 years to Gérald Prévost. Loving mother of Liette Desforges (Yvon), Yvette Prévost-Emond (Normand) and Raymond Prévost (Shelly). Cherished grandmother of Patrick Legault and of the late Denis Legault. Sister of Théodore, Deloza, Claudia, Fernand, Léonard, Jacqueline, Conrad, Gilbert and Valorie.

She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The Prévost family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for the care and dedication shown to Bella.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St-Dominique Church, Sudbury.

Georgette StJacques

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Georgette StJacques in Sudbury on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Daughter of the late Josephat Carrière and the late Malvina (née Dequanne) Carrière. Beloved wife of the late Claude St. Jacques.

Loving mother of Rhéal (Lise), Lorraine Frappier (Michel), Diane MacDonald (André), and Normand (Line). Dear sister of Lucien (late Yollande), Réginald (Claudette), René (late Claudette), Lucille (late Léo-Paul), Denise (Raymond), and Denis (Madelaine). Predeceased by siblings: Armand (late Cécile), Gérard (Marie-Jeanne), Rhéal, Germaine (late Jacques), Gertrude (late Armand), Rita (late Léon), and Lionel (late Marie-Jeanne).

Cherished grandmother of Richard Watts, Lindsay Watts (Edward Brennan), Éric St. Jacques, Gilles Frappier (Angèle Neault), Micheline Frappier (Ashley), André Frappier (Brianna Lamontagne), Shane MacDonald (Jenna), Ashley MacDonald (Michael Yang), Francine Lafleur (Nicholas), and Stéphane St. Jacques (Katarina Parent). She will be sadly missed by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Georgette enjoyed the great outdoors with Claude and bingo. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

George Elmer Koivu

September 15, 1925 – December 12, 2024

It is with deep love and broken hearts that we announce the passing of George Elmer Koivu on December 12, 2024, at the age of 99. George died peacefully at his family home surrounded by loved ones.

George was born in Connaught, Ontario, the son of William and Wilma Koivu, immigrants from Finland, who also parented brother Jack, an Air Force bombardier who was killed during World War II, and sisters Doris (predeceased) and Gertrude.

Near the end of the war, George enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He studied Metallurgical Engineering and graduated from McGill University, where he met Anne Wasylyk, the love of his life for 75 years. After graduation, George returned to his family home in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, where he worked for 16 years at Noranda Mines before pursuing a career as a mine inspector at the Ministry of Natural Resources in Sudbury.

George and Anne married in 1952 and traveled worldwide as a couple and with their children. They enjoyed attending many sporting events, starting with their honeymoon at the Helsinki Olympics, and participated in events such as the British Empire Games, Pan American Games, World Curling, World Figure Skating Championships, and the Rio Carnival, among others.

In Quebec, George was instrumental in bringing Little League Baseball to the province and was an executive member of the Lions Club. Once relocated to Chelmsford, he remained actively involved in his community, including volunteering with the local Legion branch and supporting sports initiatives.

He leaves behind his loving wife Anne, his sister Gertrude, his children Mark, Kristina Castonguay (Richard), Gary, John (Susan), Tamara Ivens (Mark), Cindy (Ian Kennard), Kathy LeBreton (Frank), and Annikki Desmarais (Dan). He also leaves a legacy to 19 cherished grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and countless relatives, friends, and coworkers.

A celebration of George's remarkable 99 years will be held at the Chelmsford Legion on January 9, 2025. Please honor George’s memory by supporting a local sports organization or donating to Chelmsford Legion Branch 553.

Lise Chrétien-Gardner

November 22, 1955 ~ December 5, 2024

It is with immense sadness that the family announces the passing of Lise Chrétien-Gardner on December 5, 2024, at the age of 69. Daughter of the late Roméo Chrétien and the late Blanche Chrétien (née Pressé), Lise was the cherished wife of Michael Gardner and devoted mother to Christian Gardner (Angela Simpson) and Jonathan Gardner (Andreea Popa).

Lise dedicated her career to education, serving the Conseil scolaire catholique du nord de l’Ontario (CSCNO) with passion and integrity. From her beginnings as a teacher to her roles as school principal and superintendent, she was particularly devoted to advocating for children with special needs, ensuring they received the care, resources, and opportunities they deserved.

Outside of her professional life, Lise lived life to the fullest with her husband, Mike. Together, they traveled the world, explored cycling trails, and played pickleball, a sport she loved for its joy and the social connections it fostered. She led her life with strength, elegance, and a vibrant spirit, leaving a remarkable legacy.

On a personal level, Lise was warm and compassionate, always ready to listen and offer thoughtful advice. Her kind and nurturing nature touched the lives of everyone she met.

She is survived by her siblings: Carmen Corriveau (Armand), Robert (Jeannine), Pierrette Dalcourt (Gérard), Rhéal (Pauline), Hubert (Lucie), Michel (Jocelyne), Sylvie Chrétien-Makela (Richard), and Alain. She also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by her siblings Normand, Marcelle, Raymond, and Jean-Marc.

Visitation and Mass:
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at St. Anne’s des Pins Church, Sudbury, Ontario, on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gaétane Richard on November 29, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on May 4, 1950, Gaétane was a cherished member of her family and community in Sudbury, Ontario.

Gaétane’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She was known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for those around her. Her presence brought joy and comfort to everyone she met.

Alain Paradis

1992 - November 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Alain Paradis at home in Sudbury on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 32. Alain was the cherished son of Paul Paradis and Gisèle Paradis (née Bélanger), and the devoted father to Hannah Lutes and Isabella Lutes. He was the beloved brother of Nicole Paradis and Sophie Paradis, and dear grandson to Eleanor Paradis, predeceased by other grandparents.

Alain will be deeply missed by his extended family and many friends. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
