On November 25, 2024, we said goodbye to John Verstraeten, lovingly known as ‘Whoppo,’ at the age of 56. John will always be remembered as a devoted husband to Lisa, a loving father to Jayde-Ann (Matt), Trenton, and Kanton (Haleigh), and a cherished Popps to Kallum, Stephanie, and Buck. His beloved dog Stella will miss him dearly.
John was the son of the late Joseph and Sharon Verstraeten and the brother of Penny. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. Known for his love of baseball, garage gatherings, and endless adventures, ‘Johnny Whoppo’ leaves behind a legacy of laughter and cherished memories among his friends and family.
Family and friends are invited to visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231), on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of John’s life will follow at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 1 p.m., with burial at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue or the Chatham-Kent Hospice. Cherished stories and tributes may be shared with the family at Cavanagh Funeral Home.
With peaceful but heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judith Elizabeth Schoorman (nee Krohn) on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Judy was reunited with her beloved husband, Jakob, and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Loving daughter of the late Lyle and Winifred Krohn and daughter-in-law of the late Jacob and Sophie Schoorman. Judy will be dearly remembered by her brother Charles (Debbie) and sister-in-law Lisa, surviving spouse of her late brother Melvin. She is predeceased by her sister Carol.
A cherished aunt to Angie (Gene), Valerie (Chad), Jon, Joe (Clarissa), Matt (Sue), Raylene (Von), Melissa (Brandon), and a beloved great-aunt to Justin (Moriah), Connor (Alyssa), Kenton, Jordan, Jaicee, Emerson, Alec, Ayla, and Asher, Judy also had a special bond with the many children she babysat, who will carry fond memories of her warmth and care.
Judy’s family would like to extend special thanks to “Her Girls” Shuchi, Pranjali, Erica, and Lynda, who became family to her.

Betty Evelyn Janet DuChene of Chatham passed away suddenly in Cancun, Mexico on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the age of 78. Betty was the daughter of the late Bert and Helen (McPhail) Payne.
Beloved wife of Peter DuChene. Cherished mother of Jennifer Dureno (David) and their children Jacob, Olivia, and Colton; Stefan DuChene (Wendi) and their children Carter, Peyton, and Bennett; Andrew DuChene; and Jonathan (Krista) and their children Micah, Seth, and Leah. Dear sister of the late Ariel Hills, the late Marilyn Kettlewell, the late Robert Payne, Shirley Deighton, and Joan Gardiner.
Betty was an X-Ray technician before leaving to raise her children full-time. She later worked in retail for several years and dedicated her time as a volunteer at her church and within the local community.
Family and friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, from 6–8 PM on Tuesday, November 19th. The funeral will be celebrated at Thames Christian Fellowship, 400 Park Avenue East in Chatham, at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 20th. The family will receive guests from 11:30 AM–12:30 PM in the church prior to the funeral service.
