It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Cousins, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 76.

Cherished wife of 58 years to the love of her life, Glenn. Beloved mother of Ross (predeceased) and April (Jeff Ward). Proud Granny to Andrew and Matthew. Shirley will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley’s memory to The Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Mount Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21 Gerrard Rd, Whitby, ON, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with speeches beginning at 2:30 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Edna Selleck on November 14, 2024, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of 70 years to the love of her life, Gordon (Barney). Loving mother to Gary (predeceased), Lori, and Blaine. Adored grandma to Kourtney, Garet, Brant, and Joshua. Cherished "GGMA" of Jack, Avery, Hailey, and Izzie May. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Ruth Laurine Johnston

In Loving Memory Of Ruth Laurine Johnston, born in Oshawa, Ontario, in 1929, passed away peacefully at Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, surrounded by family. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob Johnston, with whom she shared a life filled with love and devotion.

Ruth was a dedicated and loving mother to Steve (Joan), Paul (Karen), Murray, Bev (Geoff), Tim (Caroline), Laurel (Darcy) Petrovic, and Sean (Ryoko). Her legacy lives on through her 15 grandchildren: Curtis, Lauren, Meagan, Vanessa, Matt, Courtney, Jennifer, Andrew, Gillian, Rachel, Nic, Bron, Carly, Emma, and Kai; five great-grandchildren, Felix, Nico, Orrin, Maizie and Talon. Ruth’s life was a testament to family, kindness, and unwavering faith.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby. A Private Interment will follow the Service and a Reception will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery following the burial.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassionate care, with a very special thanks to longtime friend and health aid, Robina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s honour to a charity of choice. Ruth will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Elmar Parna

May 20, 1958 - November 15, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elmar Parna, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 66. Elmar’s spirit, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community made him a cherished presence in the lives of everyone who knew him.

Elmar grew up with a love for laughter (especially pranking people) and sports—passions that remained with him throughout his life. Whether on the ice, in the stands, or telling his signature jokes, he had a way of bringing life to every situation.

As a dedicated correctional officer for 29 years, Elmar served his community with integrity and commitment. His colleagues, who better knew him as “Parn Dog,” will remember him for the humour and lightheartedness he brought to a challenging work environment.

Elmar Parna is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Parna, his children, Julieanne Parna and Kevin Parna, and many cherished relatives and friends.

An informal ‘time to remember’ gathering will be held on November 22, 2024, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd, Whitby, where friends and family are invited to drop by to share memories, stories, and, of course, laughs, just as Elmar would have wanted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.

Elmar’s laughter may have left the room, but his impact on those around him will never be forgotten. He touched our lives, and while he will be dearly missed, his legacy of humour, love, and dedication will endure forever.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Moses Hamilton, a devoted husband, beloved father, and committed psychiatric nurse, on November 10, 2024. Moses was the cherished husband of the late Viney Hamilton and the proud father of three sons, Clive, Brent, and Ron.

Moses dedicated his life to the well-being of others, working tirelessly in the field of psychiatric nursing. His compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support enriched the lives of both his patients and all who knew him.

A loving husband and father, Moses was a source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a life devoted to service and care.

A Service to Celebrate Moses' Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby, Ontario, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by the Service at 3:00 p.m., with a Reception after the Service.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Wayne Russell, who left us peacefully on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at the age of 81, with his family by his side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

George was the beloved husband of the late Linda Gail Russell (nee Lynde). He was a devoted father to Heath (Tracey) and Dawn (Jeff), and a cherished Papa to Garrett (Ashley), Nick, Eric, Melanie, Justine, and Cole. George was also a loving Great Papa to Abagail.

He was the brother of Burt, Jack (predeceased), Jim, Britt, and Marilyn. George, a retiree of GM Oshawa, will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

It is with deep heartbreak and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Janet Lenore Tomkins. Leaving this world too soon, Janet passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 12, 2024, at Peterborough Regional Hospital, with the love of her life by her side. In her final days, she was surrounded by those who loved her most.

Janet is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wally. She was a loving mother to David (deceased), Christopher, and Sarah (Trevor). As a cherished Nanny, she is mourned by Nathan, Reid, Ainsley, Dustin, Alyssa, Dylan, Lincoln, Rebecca, Jessica, Erica, and Matthew. Janet will also be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Sarah's closest friends, who over the years became an extension of her family.

Janet's greatest joy in life was her family. She truly valued the quality time spent together. With a wonderful sense of humor and a playful spirit, she often brought joy to those she loved the most. Those who knew her experienced her kind heart and unwavering support through both good times and bad.

Without Janet, our lives have been forever changed. Her absence has created an unexplainable emptiness. However, she will live on in our hearts, where her goodness, caring nature, and wisdom will always remain.
