Reta Elsie Thompson

October 2, 1935 – October 15, 2024

Reta Elsie Thompson (nee Barker) of Huntsville passed away peacefully in her 90th year after a short illness. She was born to Elizabeth and Thomas Barker in Toronto on October 2, 1935. Reta is predeceased by her loving husband, Henry Thompson, and her granddaughters, Ashley Dean and Candice Thompson.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Calla Thompson (Anne) and Heather Thompson (Jep), and her grandchildren, Ciara Thompson (Andy) and Christopher Thompson (Katie). Reta is survived by her sisters, Patricia Brown and Dorothy Holland, and her wonderful nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Ernest Barker.

Reta’s life exemplified the value of hard work. From her night shift job at a Toronto canning factory at just 14 years old to managing her daycare as a young mother and later advancing to a successful career in the City of York’s payroll department, Reta inspired her family with her dedication. Her entrepreneurial spirit lives on in the accomplishments of Heather, Ciara, and Christopher.

Known for her fierce love of family and friends, her “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” attitude, and her practical approach to life, Reta left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Algonquin Grace Hospice Huntsville in Reta’s memory.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Muskoka Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
