James “Jim” Aitken, cherished husband to Sonia, beloved father to Leslie and Jamie, passed on December 30, 2024, at the age of 87. Jim died peacefully in his sleep. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1937, Jim was raised during the Second World War, experiencing bomb raids of the tenements and the rare biscuit of a generous auntie. As a young man, he took up the bagpipes and soccer, playing both on the national stage.
At the age of 17, Jim immigrated to Canada and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police one year later. A retired Superintendent of the RCMP, Jim travelled across Canada serving communities in Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Ontario. Highlights of his career included training RCMP recruits in Regina and Penhold, managing the RCMP’s Bi-Centennial Celebration featuring the Musical Ride, and leading RCMP’s International Security division.
Over his lifetime, Jim was an avid adventurer, enjoying whitewater kayaking, piloting planes, scuba diving, horseback riding, schooner sailing, and precision driving. His penchant for testing limits was breathtaking and an inspiration for many of us. In his elder years, Jim found deep pleasure in nature, especially exploring whale watching all across Canada’s ocean waters.
Jim’s arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael John Kearns, known to all as Mike, on December 20, 2024. Mike was born in Ottawa on January 30, 1941, to Michael and Mary Kearns (both predeceased) and was the beloved sibling of Patricia, Peter, and Joan.
Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 59 years, Carol (née Bova), and their children, Allison (Robert Munro) and Michael Jr. (Deanna Pidwerbeski). He was a proud grandfather to Cole, Ben, Olivia, and Ella.
Mike spent much of his professional life in the civil service as a skilled machinist, showcasing exceptional abilities with machines and a talent for building things. His passion for auto racing was evident in his involvement in building cars for Formula Ford and Formula Atlantic and working in the pits. In retirement, he found great joy in go-kart racing.
Mike was an avid skier, spending countless hours on the slopes with his family. He was also actively involved in amateur football, serving as president of the Kanata March Hares football club and coaching teams his son Michael Jr. played on. Beyond sports, Mike enjoyed fishing, gardening, and tinkering around the house.
A devoted animal lover, Mike cared for many cats over the years, including numerous strays that found their way into his care. His big heart and love for animals were well known by all who knew him.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses, PSWs, and staff at Forest Hill for their kindness and exceptional care during Mike’s stay there.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Furry Tales or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Rest in peace, Mike. You will always be in our hearts.
