A resident of Whitby and formerly Bowmanville, Alice passed away on August 19 at Oshawa General Hospital.
Alice de Vries was born in Ureterp, the Netherlands on May 28, 1936, becoming the middle child of three who grew to adulthood. Prior to marriage and immigration, she trained as a health care worker. On March 31, 1961 she married Wiepke “Bill” Wesselius with whom she spent almost 63 years together. They immigrated to Canada and settled in Bowmanville, Ontario.
Alice worked in various places but her main job was as a health care aide or PSW at Strathaven Nursing Home in Bowmanville. While working part-time, she focused on raising her three sons. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, tulips and had a house full of plants.
Retirement brought more time with Wiepke, grandchildren and a move to Whitby. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at Durham Christian Homes and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On January 1, 2024, Wiepke passed away. Alice struggled to adjust and succumb to illness just over 2 years later.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wiepke, an infant son, John, two grand daughters, Andrea and Natasha, and a great grand son, Kasen.
She is survived by three sons;

Internment and memorial service will occur at the Bowmanville Cemetery at 2 pm, Monday, August 31.
