Alvin “Al” Randolph Puhlmann passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family. He had endured a four-year struggle following a stroke.
Born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, on September 16, 1938, Al spent his early childhood on the family farm before moving to Vernon, British Columbia, at age seven. He later lived in Westlock, Fort Chipewyan, Swan Hills, Edson, Edmonton and St. Albert, returning to Vernon in 1997.
Al met Rose Boucher while serving with the RCMP in Westlock. They married in 1963. He is remembered by his children Michelle, Nadine (John) and Kurt (Angele); grandchildren Emerson, Jacob, Karlyn, Kaden and Presley; his brother Herb (Nyoni); and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
During 26 years and one day with the RCMP, Al rose to the rank of Sergeant in Alberta. After retiring from active duty in 1984, he continued as an RCMP property manager until 1994. He also gave his time to coaching basketball, softball, baseball and hockey, and to other community organizations.
Al enjoyed travel, fishing, hunting, horseback trail rides, swimming, slo-pitch, music, home renovations, vehicles, crib and poker. His family remembers his warmth, humour, integrity and devotion to Rose. They also thanked the staff at Creekside for their loving care.
