When John (PW) Avery passed away on April 6, 2025, he left behind his son Daren, his companion Gaamominik (Karen Watts), and many cherished family and friends. John is remembered for his kind-hearted nature and unconditional respect for everyone—regardless of background or circumstance.
He is survived by his mother Stella Avery, siblings Bob (Susan), Joanne (Graham), and Brenda (John), and remembered as a beloved uncle and great-uncle. Predeceased by his father Raymond Avery, siblings Danny, Wayne, Kimberly, and Susan.
Known for his deep love of dogs, generosity, and welcoming spirit, John was a friend to all in his community. His front porch was a favorite stop for neighborhood dogs and their owners. His compassion extended to those in need, often sharing what he had with others—whether a smoke, spare change, or a kind word.
John was trained in various technical disciplines including orthotics, machinery operation, and business administration. His diverse career included time at Charlotte Products in shipping and receiving. Despite multiple health challenges in recent years, John remained strong, supported by compassionate health professionals and neighbors.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 PM at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough, followed by a private interment at Rosemount Gardens.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to the PRHC Stroke Unit or the local Food Bank.
