BAN, Zhimei Ban

Passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, February 23, 2026, in his 90^th year.

Beloved husband of Guoping Chen. Respected father of Ying Ban of Wuhan, China, Dayan Ban of Waterloo, Ontario and Sharon Therrien of Wesford, MA, USA. He will be forever admired and loved by his grandchildren Wei, Sihao, Siting, Yue, Alex, Bryan, Cayla, and his great grandchild Tongyan. Predeceased by his sister Zhi-wen, his brother Zhi-ou, his parents Jiliang Ban and Jingmei Yan.

He lost his father when he was still an infant, survived and resiliently grew up in an orphanage. During his childhood, he sought out every opportunity for education, eventually gaining admission to Hangzhou Normal University when he was 22 years old. Four years later, he completed his undergraduate degree, and became a proud high school Chinese teacher. He taught at several high schools, gradually becoming a key teacher of graduating classes, and was promoted to senior teacher (associate professor level). In his more than 34 years of teaching, he nurtured thousands of students, many of whom went on to become university professors, engineers, researchers, and civil servants—his students are found all over the world.

Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., with the funeral service to follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Private family interment to take place at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, on a later date.
