BEDI, Satwant Bedi

She is loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 26, 2026 at the age of 95.

Satwant Bedi was born in Rangoon, Myanmar (Burma) on August 20, 1930. The family relocated to India while she was a child, driven by war and civil unrest, back in Myanmar. Satwant went on to marry Parkash Singh Bedi in 1946, and they lived in various cities in India, until 1968, when the couple immigrated to the United Kingdom. In 1971, they moved to Canada where the entire Bedi family reunited with their two daughters and two sons, as well as Parkash’s parents.

Parkash passed away in 1998, at their apartment in Toronto, where Satwant remained until 2011, when she moved to the Chartwell Ballycliffe Retirement Residence in Ajax, Ontario. Upon the closure of Ballycliffe, she subsequently relocated to Chartwell Colonial in Whitby, and then onto Bay Ridges Long Term Care in Pickering in 2022.

Satwant was part of a large family, with 4 brothers and 5 sisters, with extended families spread across the globe.

Satwant is survived by her 3 children: Jagjit “Jack” Bedi (Pickering, Ontario), Jatinder “Manju” Haniff (Pickering, Ontario) and Jay “Titu” Bedi (Pickering, Ontario), as well as seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Satwant struggled with cyclical depression during most of her adult life. When she was well, she will always be remembered as a kind and loving soul, with a good sense of humour.

A funeral is planned for Monday June 1 at 1pm, at the Ajax Crematorium & Visitation Centre, 384 Finley Avenue, Ajax, ON L1S 2E3.
