BESSELINK, Albertus Cornelius Besselink

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albertus CorneliusΒ (Neill) Besselink on June 17, 2026, at the age of 63.Β Neill will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his father LeoΒ Besselink, sister Marisa (Martin), niece Sarah (Daniel) and nephew MichaelΒ (Lindsay). He is predeceased by his mother Janny Besselink.Β Neill will also be dearly missed by his aunt, uncle and cousins in theΒ Netherlands, as well as his friends at our local Tim Hortons.Β Special thanks to Janice and the staff at Community Living who supportedΒ Neill for many years and were good friends to him. Additional thanks to Bob and his staff at the Heartland Forest woodworking group.Β Neill was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan and enjoyed a lifetime rivalry with hisΒ Montreal-fan sister. As well, he loved attending the car races at Merrittville,Β Cayuga, and previously at Humberstone Speedway. Each year he alsoΒ looked forward to attending the Monster Truck show.Β For many years, Neill was heavily involved in Special Olympics and hasΒ many remarkable achievements in softball, powerlifting, bowling and speedΒ skating.Β Most notably, Neill was part of the Garden City Lion’s Softball team, whoΒ won the gold medal at the 2007 Special Olympics World Games inΒ Shanghai, China.Β Over the past few years, Neill developed his woodworking skills at theΒ Heartland Forest woodworking class and made near professional gradeΒ inlaid charcuterie boards. Many family and friends are the proud owner ofΒ his creations!Β Neill has always been extremely hard working with a humble personality.Β He had a great sense of humour with a quick wit and a ready smile forΒ everyone and loved hanging out with friends and family.Β His greatest love was being an uncle to Sarah and Michael, and he wouldΒ be forever joking around with them.Β Neill will be missed by all who knew him (and endured his back-breakingΒ hugs!). He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be foreverΒ cherished.

Cremation has taken place. Neill’s family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00PM – 8:00PM onΒ Monday, June 29, 2026, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 179 Clarence St. PortΒ Colborne.Β In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made inΒ Neill’s memory to Heartland Forest or to Community Living Port Colborne-Wainfleet.Β Online memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.armstrongfuneralhome.ca
