BLIGHT, Beatrice “Betty” Blight

With love and sadness we announce the recent passing of Beatrice “Betty” Ann Blight on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances. Betty leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep devotion to her family and community.

Betty was born on December 23, 1943, in Midland, Ontario, to Ruth Draper and Alfred Primeau. She later married David Blight, and they were blessed with three children: John, Stacey, and Jennifer.

A devoted mother, Betty was also a deeply cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren: Curtis Blight, Jeffery Bragg, Jamie Bragg, Natasha (Dustin) Eyolfson, and Alex and Jada Eide brought her immense pride and joy. Her great-grandchildren, Ethan Bragg, Eli and Everett Eyolfson, were a constant source of happiness in her later years. She treasured every moment spent with her family, and her love for them was boundless.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children John Blight, Stacey Bragg, and Jennifer (Terry) Eide; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law Wayne (Cathy) Blight, Weston Blight (Angie Armstrong), Arden Blight, Trevor Blight, and Irvine (Geraldine) Blight; her sisters-in-law Forest (John) Armstrong, Amber Davidson, Elaine Blight, and Star Clarke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Blight; her parents, Ruth Draper and Alfred Primeau; her sister Diane (Tom) Copeland; her brothers Ron and Wayne Draper; her granddaughter Melissa Bragg; her grandson Kyle Blight; her sister-in-law Norma Blight; and her brother-in-law Jerry Blight.

Betty spent much of her life in the close-knit community of Rainy River, where she became known for her generous spirit and unwavering willingness to help others. She was an avid volunteer, dedicating countless hours to supporting local initiatives and community events. Whether organizing, cooking, or simply offering a helping hand, Betty’s contributions made a lasting difference to those around her.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing cards with friends, tending to her garden, fishing, and preparing meals that brought loved ones together. Betty was a wonderful cook who expressed her love through food, always ensuring no one left her table hungry.

Betty will be remembered for her gentle kindness, unwavering strength, and the love she shared so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the family she so dearly loved.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, an intimate Final Resting Ceremony will be held with family and close friends at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River on June 05, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54.
