Our hearts are heavy. Our dear and gentle Richard Walter Bowman passed away at Oak Ridges Hospice on October 14, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Richard, aged 82, was surrounded by love, and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Catherine, his son Christopher, and his loving daughter-in-law CeLynn.

In his later years, Richard’s pride and joy were his two grandchildren, Abigail Marie and Luke Robert. Even in his final days, his face would light up whenever he saw them. He is also survived by his sister Margaret (Edward), and siblings Terry, Mercedes, and Michael (Antoinette). Predeceased by his parents, Simeon and Antoinette, brothers Sam (Jeannie) and Frank (Miriam), and sister Benny (Joe), Richard was deeply cherished by his nieces, nephews, and goddaughter, Daria. He will be missed by his close in-laws, Jamie (Nora), Lawrence (Carrie), and Terry, and his many lifelong friends.

Born in Egypt during WWII and raised in Malta, Richard came to Canada at 18 to build a life. His legacy of kindness, humour, and a love of golf will live on, especially through the many trips shared with his friend of 52 years, John McDonald. He will be missed, but we take comfort knowing it’s time for him to rest. Time to say goodbye.

Friends may call at the Newcastle Funeral Home for memorial visitation on Friday, October 25th, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 26th, at 12:00 noon, with visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
