With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Josef Braverman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Josef passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 86. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, on July 8, 1938, Josef immigrated to Israel in 1971 and later settled in Toronto, Canada, in 1985. He was a visionary and highly respected engineer in the plastics industry. As the founder of Jatan Plastics, he revolutionized road construction by designing durable road construction barrels and barricades still used across Canadian highways today. Josef’s professional achievements earned him admiration and respect as a leader in his field.
Josef’s legacy extends beyond his professional contributions. He was a man of warmth, humor, intelligence, and kindness. He had a generous heart and was deeply devoted to his family, especially his two sons, Jack Braverman (Lisa) and Eitan Braverman (Katerina). He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Janetta Braverman, and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Jessica, Natalie, Ryan, Joshua, Seth, Ezekiel, and Eden.
Josef was a true mensch—a man of integrity, compassion, and loyalty. He was a cherished friend to many, always offering a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or a good laugh. His ability to light up a room with his wit and charm will be deeply missed.
Josef is survived by his dear brother, Tuvia Braverman, and was predeceased by his beloved parents, Esther and Yacov Braverman.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. Following the service, the family will observe Shiva at the Braverman residence, 32 Loma Vista Dr., Thornhill, ON, where family and friends are welcome to gather to remember and celebrate his life.
