Brigitte Nicole Luciuk (née Gareau) passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on September 2, 2026, at the age of 55, following complications of adrenal cancer.

Born in Prince Albert on October 14, 1970, to Hubert and Lucille Gareau, Brigitte was raised on the family farm north of Meath Park as the youngest of nine children. She enjoyed reading, drawing and cycling, and treasured childhood rides on the tractor with her father. After graduating from Meath Park School in 1988, she earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan’s Edwards School of Business and served as treasurer of the Commerce Students’ Society.

Brigitte met Colin Luciuk during a summer internship with Deloitte in Prince Albert. They married in 1994 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, honeymooned in Alaska and later made homes in the Calgary area and Saskatoon. Together they raised Michael, Jenna and Kristen. Colin died in 2016 after 22 years of marriage.

Her accounting and financial-systems career with TransAlta began in 1996. She worked in finance, treasury, corporate reporting and financial systems, later returning as a senior advisor in 2021. Colleagues valued her patience, reliability, curiosity, attention to detail and knowledge.

Brigitte was an avid reader who especially enjoyed legal thrillers, plays and comedy shows. The family cabin at Phillips Grove was a special gathering place, and she served her lakeside community as council treasurer while taking part in its fishing, horseshoe and Kaiser tournaments. Travel also brought her joy, including family journeys across the United States, Caribbean and Europe, trips to Las Vegas, visits to Toronto, road trips and weekends across Western Canada.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Eva), Jenna and Kristen; siblings Bernard (Sandra), Beatrice, Marielle (Ralph), Armand (Eveline), Louise (Ross), Eva (Ken), Noel (Jocelyne) and Emile (Arliss); mother-in-law Bea; brother-in-law Dean (Karen); sister-in-law Michelle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Colin; parents Hubert and Lucille; father-in-law Ron; brother-in-law Denis; nephew Austin; and niece Melissa.

A celebration of Brigitte’s life will be held at Mourning Glory – Acadia McKague’s Funeral Chapel, 915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may support Endocrine Cancers research through the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or another meaningful cancer-research organization. Her family has thanked the doctors, nurses and staff at Royal University Hospital for their compassionate care.
