margaret britt victoria bc obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Evelyn Britt, at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital on May 22, 2026.

Margaret was born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, one of 14 siblings. In 1939 her parents sold their farm and the family moved to Victoria. In 1943 Margaret and a sister travelled to Whitehorse, NWT. There she met Howard, who was stationed there with the Canadian Armed Forces. They married in 1947 and embarked on a military life together which included postings to various military bases around the country. Through their travels, Margaret and Howard formed many long lasting friendships. Her true passion in life was being a mother to her three children; Kevin, Lynn and Debbie. We were the beneficiaries of her kind, caring, loving, generous and warm personality. She led by example and gave us room to make our mistakes and learn from them. She was always there to celebrate our successes in life, no matter how small, and to offer support and encouragement when life had its challenges. She was, in many ways, our best friend. Margaret led an active life, enjoying sports such as baseball, curling and lawn bowling. She was an avid gardener, loved dogs and was a regular walker. She had a keen interest in people and enjoyed socializing through venues like the Monterey seniors centre in Oak Bay. In her later years, she participated in day programs for seniors at the Luther Court Society. She will be remembered for her humble nature, sense of humour and positive attitude.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband Howard and a precious great-grandchild. She leaves behind her son Kevin, daughters Lynn (Richard), Debbie (Richard), five grandchildren and their spouses, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and dear friend Trish.

Margaret’s family wishes to express their gratitude for exceptional care to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital as well as the Sidney All Care Residence and the Glenwarren Lodge.

A Celebration of Life will held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
