Carolyn Geraldine Whaley

WHALEY, Carolyn Geraldine – Peacefully, on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Belleville General Hospital, in her 82nd year. Beloved partner of Guy Dunk. Loving mother of Darryl James (Joanne Merner) Whaley and Angela Joyce (Jay Cassidy) Chapman. Cherished grandmother of Kayla Chapman and step-grandmother of Kaitlyn and Michelle Merner. Dear sister of Marjorie (Wayne) Mutton, Jane (Neil Smith) Mutton, Glenda (Art) Quinn, Gord Blakley, Jim (Donna) Blakley, and Ruth (the late Terry) Youngblut. Carolyn will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Cobourg in 1945 to Gerald and Joyce Blakley, Carolyn spent her life with her 6 brothers and sisters in the Colborne area where she attended school in a 1 room school house north of Colborne on County rd. 21 and Maple Grove rd. which was down the hill from her home. She went to high school in Brighton before becoming a hair dresser. Carolyn was married to Gary Whaley in 1961 and they adopted Darryl and Angela in 1967 and 68 respectively living on a farm in Salem. Carolyn eventually moved to Colborne with her two children where she lived until she met Guy Dunk and moved to their farm on Mutton rd. with him where they spent the next 45 years together. Carolyn became a hair dresser after high school, eventually working in Cobourg before opening her own successful shop “Town and Country” on the main street in Colborne where she worked until she retired, the last 17 years with Camilla Corkery who eventually took over the shop. Carolyn was a wonderful cook and baker, a talented artist and craftswoman who spent many hours painting, knitting, sewing and quilting. Carolyn created amazing quilts with her sister Marjorie, her friend Margaret and her quilting groups. Many of her family and friends have wonderful artwork or lovingly sewn quilts that were crafted for them. Carolyn even had her art turned into a limited-edition print. Carolyn and Guy loved spending weekends camping at country and bluegrass jamborees. Carolyn spent the past 2 years living in the beautiful Legacy retirement community in Brighton. Carolyn will be missed by everyone she met. She was a wonderful loving person.
Friends are invited to call at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 11 King St., E., Colborne on Friday November 6th from 10 – 11 am., followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment at Castleton Cemetery.
