CHIN, Olive Rose Chin

December 6, 1940 - November 1, 2025
CHIN, Olive Rose Chin

Born on December 6, 1940, in Kingston, Jamaica, Olive was a proud graduate of Alpha Academy. She later built a fulfilling career as a secretary, working for companies that took her across continents—from Pepsi in England and Montreal to Diversified in Alberta, Canada.

Olive was the beloved wife of 52 years to Tony Chin and the devoted mother of Tina Goodhew (Jeff), Lori-Lynn Taylor (Trevor), and Marty Chin. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Camden and Braedon Goodhew, and Kylie and Tyson Taylor. Family was at the heart of everything she did—her three children always came first, and her love and care were constants in their lives.

An amazing cook with a generous spirit, Olive had a remarkable ability to bring people together through her food, warmth, and kindness. She was known for always putting others before herself and for the soft spot she carried for anyone who needed a helping hand or a bit of extra understanding.

Olive loved watching sports, especially tennis, figure skating, hockey and volleyball. She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader—attending as many of their games as she could, always with pride and joy. She also delighted in shopping and had a knack for finding a great deal, turning every outing into a small adventure.

She will be lovingly remembered for her kind heart, selfless nature, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A private service for immediate family will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Balmoral Recreational Centre in Kelowna, British Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the BC Cancer Foundation, causes close to Olive’s heart.

Farewell to Olive Rose Chin— The Wind Beneath Our Wings

You believed in us and cheered us on,

Through life’s victories and through tears,

A faithful fan, with heart so wide,

That carried us for years.

Your laughter filled our hearts,

Your joy lit up the day,

And your generosity for your family and friends

Was shown in every way.

Through all of life, you stood so strong,

Our steady, guiding grace—

The wind beneath our hopeful wings,

The calm in every place.

You taught us how to stand up proud,

To smile through life’s demands,

To lift each other when we fall,

And hold with gentle hands.

Your spirit soars where peace begins,

Your love forever true—

For every joy we feel today

Is part of what you flew.

Now heaven has a brighter cheer,

The angels hear you sing—

But, Mom, you’ll always be the wind,

Beneath our every wing.

Olive Rose Chin, our much loved wife, mom, grandma, aunt, sister, and friend will live forever in our hearts.
