COCKERILL, Donald “Donny” Gerald Cockerill

It is with great sadness we share the news of the sudden passing of our father, brother, son, brother-in-law, and uncle, Donny Cockerill.

He is survived by his sons Oakley and Kai, mother Carol Cockerill, sisters Beckie (Ken) Vogel and Lee (Andrew) Dueck; nieces and nephews Marcus (Annie) and Tristin Vogel, Christopher (Kim), Anna, and Katie Dueck. Predeceased by his father Gerry Cockerill (June) and grandparents.

Recently, Donny was reunited with his biological brother Steve Kennedy, which helped fill an empty space in his heart.

Donny was born in Barrie, Ontario and came into the Cockerill family as a blond-haired, blue-eyed, energetic toddler. A sports enthusiast, he played baseball, hockey, football, darts, skiing, and swimming. He was a lifelong Philadelphia Flyers fan, though he occasionally cheered on the Leafs.

He loved camping, boating, and fishing—but never liked eating the fish! He was a whiz in the kitchen and a master of the BBQ. Donny had a natural talent for sales and service, working mainly in hospitality. He also started his own successful business, Draught Works, which he later paused due to health concerns.

His greatest joy in life was his sons, Oakley and Kai, and watching them grow into kind-hearted young adults.

Join us in celebrating his life at the Collingwood Legion, 490 Ontario St, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., where we will raise a pint in Donny’s honour.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Collingwood Hospital Foundation or to Diabetes Canada, two organizations that supported Donny in many ways over the years.

Memories and notes of condolence may be sha8ed at Fawcett Funeral Homes.
