It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Ernest Trist, who passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at the age of 88.
David was a loving partner, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of so many with his kindness, strength, generosity, and remarkable spirit.
He was a proud “Bell Guy” throughout his working years and took great pride in his work and in the many friendships he made along the way.
David was also a lifetime member of the Lions Club, dedicating many years to giving back to the community he loved. Through his involvement with the Lions Club, and in countless other ways, he contributed so much to the community of Beaverton over the years. His commitment to helping others and making his community a better place will be remembered and cherished by many.
David was a pioneer and a doer. He had an incredible ability to see possibility where others saw very little. He loved taking things most people considered discarded and turning them into something useful and extraordinary. That same instinct extended to animals; he rescued and lovingly rehabilitated dogs that others had given up on, giving them a second chance and a forever home.
David leaves behind his beloved partner of 27 years, Shirley I. Kidman, and a large and loving blended family. He will be deeply missed by his children, Beverly Trist-Stewart, Barbara Russell, Shirley M. Kidman, Joy Prophet, and Christine Pike; and by his grandchildren, Rebecca Stewart, Bruce Russell, Courtney Russell, Vikki Pike, Mindy Kidman, AJ Pike, CJ Bruneau, and JC Bruneau.
He will also be lovingly remembered by Louis Prophet, Anthony Pike, Peter Richards, Taylor DeYoung, Stephen Bruneau, Sharon Bruneau, John Bruneau, and Christal Bruneau, along with his many extended family members, friends, and members of the community whose lives he touched over the years.
David’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. His family will forever cherish the stories, laughter, projects, adventures, and many wonderful memories they shared with him.
