It is with heavy hearts that we announce, David Wayne Montgomery of Teeswater, passed away surrounded by the love of family, at Wingham and District Hospital on Friday, August 21st, 2026, at age 76.
David Montgomery was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Survived by his wife Mary Lou Montgomery (née Voisin).
Proud father of Dennis Montgomery (Janis) and Jennifer Whitehead (Scott).
Cherished Papa of Brady (Daniella), Taylor, Austyn, Tristin and Kodi.
Papa Dave to great-grandchildren, Stella and Tate.
Dear brother of Robbie Montgomery, Gayle Irvine (Roger) and Cindy de Vos (Bill).
Fondly remembered by his in-laws, John Voisin (Susie), Garry Voisin (Kathy), Steve Voisin (Vicki), Rick Voisin (Cathy), Brad Voisin (Stephanie) and Betty Voisin, along with several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Robert “Bob” and Helen (née Pettit) Montgomery, father and mother-in-law, Mac and Betty (née Blackwell) Voisin, brother-in-law Kelly Voisin, nephew Shawn Voisin, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
David was a man who wore many hats throughout his life. He was a proud fireman, spent most of his working years in telecommunications, served on Town Council, and was a dedicated member of the Teeswater Kinsmen. He was always looking for ways to give back to his community, and one of the things he especially enjoyed was organizing the annual kids’ fishing derby. Seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces was something he truly loved.
David was a swamp stomper at heart — a lover of old music, good times, and a good tune. He loved sitting around a campfire, fishing, and playing his guitar. He especially looked forward to his annual canoe run down the Saugeen River, making memories with good friends along the way.
He also enjoyed his weekly card game. He may have lost a few quarters along the way, but he never seemed too concerned about that. For David, it was never really about winning or losing — it was about the laughter, the stories, the friendly competition, and the time spent together.
If there was a Toronto Maple Leafs game on, you could be pretty sure David was watching. He was a true Leafs fan, through the wins, the losses, and all the years in between.
After retirement, David found a new passion in manufacturing birdhouses. He enjoyed keeping busy, working with his hands, and creating something that would eventually find a home in someone’s yard — and hopefully provide a cozy little home for a few feathered friends.
But above all else, family was everything to David. He loved his family deeply, with an especially soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured his time with them and took great pride in watching them grow.
David will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his generosity, his love of community, his music, his stories, his sense of humour, and his unwavering love for his family. He found joy in the simple things — a fishing rod in his hand, a guitar nearby, a fire burning, a canoe on the Saugeen, a few friends around a card table, a Leafs game on the television, or his grandchildren gathered around him.
His absence will leave a space that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the many lives he touched and, most of all, in the family he loved so much.
His stories will be told, his music will be remembered, his birdhouses will continue to find homes, and his love will live on in every generation that comes after him.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Never forgotten.
Visitation will be held at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater on Saturday, August 29th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at “Barn 13” at the Teeswater Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 30th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please dress casually, wear your favourite hockey jersey, preferably the blue and white ones!
Memorial donations to the Teeswater Kinsmen Club (Kid’s Fishing Derby) or the Teeswater Firefighters Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
