It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Devanand “Sevo” Sukhdeo, also known as David, who passed away on September 13, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born on May 26, 1957, in Georgetown, Guyana, David lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, kindness, intelligence, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
In 1976, David immigrated to Canada. He went on to establish a successful career with the Federal Government while building a home and creating a future for his family.
He was the beloved husband of Lorna Sukhdeo, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
He was a devoted and loving father to Stephanie Rajaram and her husband Michael Rajaram; Jennifer Sukhdeo and her husband Sean Hunter; and Andrew Sukhdeo and his wife Thiepana Uthayakumar.
He was also a proud and cherished grandfather to Leah Rajaram, Ethan Rajaram, Lucas Rajaram, Jayden Hunter, and Jacob Hunter, each of whom brought tremendous joy and pride to his life.
David is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Nirvanie “Mala” Sukhdeo and Cheddi Sukhdeo, as well as his extended family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.
One of David’s greatest passions was education and teaching. He was a professor and took great pride in sharing his knowledge with others. His belief in the importance of learning went far beyond words. With great pride, he also built a school in Guyana, creating opportunities for others to learn and leaving behind a meaningful and lasting contribution to the community.
David was a man of strong principles who believed deeply in hard work, integrity, family, and helping others. His generosity was not measured only by what he could provide financially. He gave his time, support, advice, and guidance freely to those around him. No matter how busy life became, he made time for the people who needed him. Family and friends knew they could turn to him for reassurance, direction, or simply a listening ear.
Intelligent and thoughtful, David was equally known for his warmth and welcoming nature. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh, and he had a way of making others feel comfortable, included, and at home in his presence.
Music held a special place in his heart, and he loved to sing. He also found great enjoyment in the simple beauty of flowers and loved having them outside his home, where he could sit and admire them. Above all else, he treasured spending time with his family.
David’s life was one of dedication—to his wife, his children and grandchildren, his work, education, his community, and the people he loved. The example he set, the sacrifices he made, the guidance he gave, and the love he shared will continue to live on through his family and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
David will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
