DOBERSTEIN, Sandy Doberstein

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander “Sandy” George Doberstein, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 82 years of age.

Beloved husband and best friend of Karen Doberstein for 58 years. Proud father of Sara and Jessica, and father-in-law of Ashim Umar. Treasured grandfather of Layla. Dear brother of Albert Doberstein, and brother-in-law of Evelyn Doberstein. Sandy will also be missed by his many friends.

Sandy is predeceased by his parents Gladys and Albert Doberstein, who instilled in him a strong work ethic.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, on April 2, 1943, Sandy grew up with a lifelong passion for sports and the outdoors. After moving to Vineland, he met the love of his life Karen, and they were happily married in 1967. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family.

A talented athlete, Sandy played professional lacrosse in his younger years and can be found in the Whitby Lacrosse Hall of Fame as MVP of the Mann Cup. He remained active throughout his life and cherished his time spent travelling. He loved nothing more than spending hours fishing in the surf of his 2 favourite places, Flagler Beach and the Outer Banks.

Sandy graduated from both Western and McMaster University. He dedicated much of his career to helping others, working first with Red Cross in Toronto, and later with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. His kindness, humor and generosity touched many lives. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A private family gathering to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
