On the morning of December 28th, at his residence, Dick passed away unexpectedly leaving behind his wife of 53 years, Laurel Doreen Duckworth (Watson) and his furry friend Pepper Jack. He is also survived by his cousins Kim Fowler(Glen), Vi Grey, Emily Grey-Campbell(Rick) and his nephew Garnet Grey. Dick and Laurel lived in Toronto prior to moving to Bowmanville in 2001. They were members of the Happy Hoppers and Jimmy’s Square dancing groups, and enjoyed travelling with the groups to Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Hawaii and Greece. Dick and Laurel moved to Bowmanville where he became active in the community through his 14 yrs of volunteer work with Wheels of Hope, the Canadian Cancer Society, in which he will be dearly missed.

Dick and his furry friends Taz(deceased) and Stricker(deceased) were patrons of the Bowmanville Dog Park, where he became part of a community of friends and their pets who met daily for coffee, walks and talks. He will be missed by many there including, Terry, Bill, Jerry, Glen, Danny and Rob.

Dick was known for his generosity and kindness to neighbours and friends. A wave from his front porch, a phone call to see if you were awake yet, a bottle of fine wine or a loaf of cheese bread were often gestures of his appreciation for his neighbours. The neighbourhood will remember him fondly.

At Dick’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no funereal or viewing. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and he will be interred at the Shelburne Cemetery in Shelburne Ontario.
