DUKE, Daniel Patrick Duke

Daniel Patrick Duke, known to many as Dan, The Duke, Rocktopus Prime, and Uncle Buttons, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2025. A legendary presence, Dan made family out of friends and friends out of everyone he met.

Born in Calgary and journeying through Edmonton, Penhold, Kamloops, Vancouver, Hamilton, and finally Toronto, Dan carried warmth, humour, and community wherever he went. Known for his poetry, culinary talent, deep conversations, and infectious laughter, Dan’s presence made every moment brighter.

He is deeply missed by his parents Catherine and Patrick, brothers Guy and Matt, their wives (both named Sarah), his many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family, and an infinite circle of friends — especially in Parkdale.

Dan shared a special bond with his former wife, Shannon Martin, and maintained treasured relationships with countless others. A die-hard Vancouver Canucks fan and a connoisseur of Jägermeister and good conversation, Dan’s personality filled every room — and always came with music.

A memorial gathering will take place at The Rhino, Toronto, on June 18 at 4:00 PM. Additional celebrations will be held in Calgary and Vancouver.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jim Henson Foundation, and Dan would want us all to remember to generously tip our servers.
