It is with deep sorrow that the family of Madonna Elizabeth Dwyer announces her passing on September 14 th at the age of 77 yrs. Surrounded by loving family she passed peacefully away at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga. Madonna is survived by her son Drew William and his father Agustine Penton; her daughter Claire Laframboise; her siblings: Edward (Marie), Marie Williams (Edwin (deceased), Peter (Priscilla), Marguerite Sexton (Patrick (deceased), Regina Burke (Peter), Pauline Adams, Carol-Anne Chemko (Bill), Gerald (Marilyn). Her nieces and nephews Todd, Stefani and Jennie, Rachelle and Justin, Suzanne, Serena, and Chad, Mark and Daniel, Nicole and Jason, Christopher and Kevin, Crystal, Christopher and Jeremey and Jamie, and her many grand nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael William Dwyer and Bertha Mary McDonald; her loving brother Kevin John 1957-2012; and by her twin siblings Cecilia and Herbert who died as infants. Madonna was born on June 26 th , 1948, in Lions Den, Fogo Island, Newfoundland. There, she grew up amid her large Christian, and loving family. Her father “Skipper Billy” Dwyer was a fisherman who instilled in his family the value of hard work, helping those less fortunate than us, love, kindness, empathy, and honesty. Following in her elder siblings’ footsteps, at the young age of sixteen, Madonna moved to Ontario where she lived with her sisters and worked. She moved back to Fogo Island for a brief period and became the proud mother of Drew. She returned to Ontario with baby Drew, where he grew up surrounded by the close-knit extended Dwyer family. Madonna’s working career included Hallmark Cards, Canada Post, and Credit Valley Hospital, but was forced into retirement by a serious illness. Undaunted, Madonna continued to live a full life. She volunteered her time helping ill family members; and lending a helping hand in the community where she lived: South Common Seniors Apartments. Whether through thoughtful cards or hand-picked treasures, Madonna celebrated the people she loved with unwavering devotion. She had an uncanny ability to remember the birthdays and milestones of every sibling, niece, nephew, friend, and of course, her son Drew. She maintained a huge pictorial library of her family and friends as they lived, laughed and enjoyed their lives. She believed in the “power of prayer” and she used it to guide her in how she lived her life. She will be sorely missed but Madonna’s legacy endures in everyone’s life that she touched. Although she didn’t have time to say goodbye, her kind and giving spirit lives on amongst each and everyone of you. You are in her thoughts and prayers!
