ECKENSVILLER, Verda Marie Eckensviller

Passed away peacefully at A.R.Goudie Long Term Care Home, Kitchener at the age of 103.

Verda Marie Eckensviller was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Angus (1997). Loving and cherished mother of Debbie Stillar (Claire) and Charlene Shingler (Ken Haid). Special grandmother to Jennifer (Michael Milovick), Carey (Paul Fontyn), Lisa (Geoff George), Christine (Shane Johnston), and Kelly (Ben Fleming). Verda has 10 great-grandchildren Michael Jr., Maxwell, and Madison Milovick, Jack and Kevin Fontyn, Ella, Mia and Quinton George, and Russell and Wesley (deceased 2016) Fleming. Survived by nephew, Don Parolin, one sister-in-law, Georgina Eckensviller, and many nieces and nephews in the Eckensviller family.

Verda was predeceased by her parents, Clara (Mainprize), Melvin Cameron and step-mother Nellie Cameron, her sister Ruth Parolin (the late Cecil) and brothers and sisters-in-law in the Eckensviller family as well.

Verda was born and raised in Golden Valley, where her family operated the general store and post office. In 1953, they moved to Kitchener where she remained for the rest of her life.

For 38 years, Verda was a proud employee of the T. Eaton Store in Kitchener, a job she thoroughly enjoyed and always found a positive side to her many encounters over the years as a store clerk.

After her retirement at age 70, she volunteered in the Gift Shop at the Grand River Hospital for two years. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting (every family member has an afghan), gardening (her balcony was a sea of flowers) and all family get-togethers. Family meant everything to her and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She was a one of a kind person and her family will miss her terribly.

Visitation will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener 519 749-8467 on Wednesday, June17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 18th from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Reception to follow. Interment at Memory Gardens, Breslau, ON at 1:15 p.m.
