Ed Furtak died peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington on August 14, 2026.
Ed is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 45 years, and their blended family, who will continue to treasure their many memories with him.
A devoted husband and father, Ed found his greatest happiness in time spent with family. Those closest to him remember a caring, gentle and generous man who took great pride in the people he loved.
Ed also had a deep appreciation for animals and nature. He enjoyed caring for many kinds of birds and spent countless hours tending freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The underwater environments he created reflected his patience, commitment and attentive care.
In keeping with Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. A private graveside service was held, and Ed was laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and everyone whose life he touched.
