Peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at Marshall Gowland Manor on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Ted Stover passed away in his 90th year. Born March 12, 1936, Ted lived a long and wonderful life filled with family, friendship and many cherished memories.
Beloved husband of the late Sarah Stover, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Loving father of Sharon Stover, John (Kristine) Stover and the late Bradley Stover. Dear brother of Ron Stover (late Claudette). Cherished grandfather of Cassandra (Jeff) Streeter, Kendall (Steve) Lapp, Christina Matheson (Colin), Katie Stockdale (Dave), Sarah Stockdale (Scott) and Bradley Stover. Proud and loving great-grandfather of 11, each of whom brought him so much joy. Predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Helen Stover, his brother-in-law Alec Crawford, and his sister-in-law Mary Elliott.
Ted and Sarah shared a wonderful life together and a love of square dancing, camping and travel. For many years, they were actively involved with square dance groups throughout Southwestern Ontario and were members of the Square Dance Campers Association of Ontario. Their travels created many special memories, with Scotland holding a particularly special place in their hearts.
Above all, Ted loved his family and treasured the time spent together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. While saying goodbye is incredibly difficult, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Sarah, the love of his life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion shown to Ted. We are incredibly grateful for the personal care he received and for the many staff members who treated him with such warmth and dignity.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish to attend, interment will follow at the cemetery. A light luncheon will follow the interment.
