EGRI, Alexis Egri
February 25, 2026
It is with profound heartbreak that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Alexis Egri, on February 25, 2026, at Etobicoke General Hospital, at the age of 26. Born on December 25, 1999, Alexis came into the world on Christmas Day, a bright and precious gift whose kindness and sensitivity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Alexis was a caring and deeply sensitive young woman, a fierce defender of what is good and right in the world, and someone who noticed and stood up for those who were hurting or overlooked. She had a smile that could melt anyone’s heart, and a gentle presence that made people feel seen, safe, and accepted for who they truly were. A proud transgender woman, Alexis lived her truth with quiet courage and authenticity, and her family honours and affirms her identity in life and in death.
All Alexis ever wanted was her own small corner of happiness, a place in the world where she could simply be herself and be at peace, but that place too often felt out of reach for her. She faced struggles that were invisible to many, and though she fought bravely, her pain became overwhelming. Those who love her will remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the tenderness, conviction, and luminous warmth she brought to ours.
Alexis was a passionate and imaginative soul who loved playing Dungeons & Dragons and video games, where her creativity, quick wit, and sense of wonder could fully shine. She spent hours every day reading, forever exploring new worlds, ideas, and stories, and she cherished the quiet comfort that books brought her. She also loved curating music for her parents. Her favourite styles included alternative, swing, post modern jazz, big band, and indie folk, and she delighted in finding just the right song to capture a mood or a moment.
Alexis will be forever loved and dearly missed by her parents, Elizabeth and Robert Egri; her siblings, William (and his wife Emily Chapman), Katherine, and Victoria Egri; her grandparents, Magda Egri and Alex Laczko; her uncle and aunt, Stephen and Karen Richards, along with extended family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts always. She was predeceased by loved ones who welcomed her gently into rest, and those of us left behind will continue to speak her name, tell her stories, and honour the beauty of who she was.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes acts of kindness done in Alexis’s memory, especially towards transgender people and anyone struggling with their mental health, so that others might find the understanding and support that Alexis herself so fiercely tried to offer the world. Details regarding a celebration of Alexis’s life will be shared with family and friends at a later date, as we gather to remember her, grieve together, and hold on to the love she leaves behind.
